What is California’s SB 49 Initiative? It’s Paving the Path to a Greener California with Solar Highways

California SB 49

We’ve got some pretty exciting news to spill, and it’s all happening in sunny California. On September 13, the California Assembly came together and gave a unanimous 79-0 thumbs-up for a fantastic initiative: the installation of solar power infrastructure along our stunning highways. And here’s the kicker – it’s all for a cleaner, greener future right here in the Golden State!

So, what’s this SB 49 hoopla all about, you ask? Well, it’s all about pointing our state agencies in the direction of exploring the potential for solar energy, battery storage, and transmission infrastructure right alongside our highways. You know, we’ve set some pretty ambitious clean energy goals for ourselves – like cranking out 90% of our power from clean sources by 2035 and hitting a full 100% clean energy mark by 2045.

You’ve seen those often overlooked spaces along our highways, right? Turns out, they’re the perfect spots to cook up some clean energy magic. This bill is here to showcase just how much solar power potential those roadways have in store for California.

Our buddy, Sen. Josh Becker from Menlo Park, chimed in on this too. He said, “SB 49 is all about paving the way for a cleaner future in California by jumpstarting renewable energy projects along our highways. It’s a total win-win-win situation: we get the renewable energy we need, support clean energy jobs, and even boost the state’s revenue while we’re at it.”

Now, here’s where it gets interesting – SB 49 could mean more moolah pouring into our state coffers. Think lease fees, selling the energy we generate, and trimming down on maintenance costs. And this isn’t just a wild dream – up in Augusta, Maine, just a handful of roadside solar setups are set to rake in millions for the state over their lifetime.

So, we’re on the road toward powering California with 100% clean energy, all thanks to those shiny solar setups lining our highways. Let’s keep the sunshine beaming and make our beautiful state even greener.
